Goodnight, Texas, the pan-American Americana band with one foot in San Francisco, surprised social media followers with a new record yesterday, For My Mother’s Wedding: Live in the Booth at Third Man Records.
Recorded in the famous record booth at Third Man Records in Nashville, the album contains new versions of studio tracks, never-before-heard tunes, and deep cuts from the dawn of Avi Vinocur and Patrick Dyer Wolf’s partnership. The opening track, “For A Wedding,” was written for Vinocur’s mother’s wedding, in tribute to the love of folk she inspired in him.
In typical GNTX tradition, the songs have a simple, historic structure, and the midcentury sound booth it was recorded in makes the entire record ache and creak with a bittersweet veneer of age. Listen to the Third Man version of “Santa Cruz” below.
For My Mother’s Wedding can be downloaded through Bandcamp. Sit tight for a new studio record, which is in production as we speak.
