Mollusk Surf Shop is taking over The Chapel this Saturday, August 20, for a unique sonic and visual experience billed as Mollusk Moods.
San Francisco’s own Vetiver is the featured headliner…but with a twist. Instead of the typical foursome-plus band, Vetiver will strip down to perform as a trio. It has not been made clear which member will be sitting out, but expect an even more raw and soul-baring sound than usual.
Alex Beeker, bass player and vocalist of the New York-based band Real Estate, will be performing a set billed as Alex Beeker and Friends. Beeker is touring in support of his third solo studio effort outside of Real Estate, a “hard hitting outlaw country” record that revolves around his recent move to the Bay Area.
Ahead of Beeker will be the collaborative effort of WiFi/Beach to take you up and around the ether with Andy Woodward of Mattson 2 and Patrick Jeffords, the drummer and bassist of Toro Y Moi, as well members of Kid Trails.
Setting the mood early on will be DJ Peaking Lights, and visual stimulation of surf projections by Jack Coleman and artwork by Nathaniel Russell will be featured prominently throughout the evening. Dance-floor friendly, Peaking Lights come off as Balearic upbeat and groovy with moving rhythms ranging from 80-124 bpm. The sets tend to have a nice arc as they build up in intensity.
