The electronic live-looping experimental duo known as EOTO will be hitting the road in the fall and making an appearance at Mezzanine in San Francisco on Saturday, September 10.

The duo consists of Michael Travis and Jason Hann, or the drums and percussion of bluegrass-tinged dance powerhouse from Colorado, The String Cheese Incident. Following the reunion of SCI at the 2009 Rothbury music festival in Michigan, EOTO has taken a backseat to the main band, primarily seeing bookings at festivals.

EOTO originally stood for “End of Time Observatory,” with the band pronouncing each letter of the acronym independently as E-O-T-O. It wasn’t long before fans and crew let the pronunciation blur into ee-oh-toe. After a group of Japanese fans pointed out that the word means “good sound” in Japanese, the band name has officially been the word ‘EOTO’ instead of the acronym.

Since forming in 2006, the group has released three albums, all of which are recorded live in a single take. Fire The Lasers!!!, released in 2009, is the group’s most recent release and is heavily influenced by the ubiquitous sound of dubstep at its height in popularity. Although they have not put out a full-length in almost eight years, EOTO remains up to date and current with trends in the electronic music realm while incorporating their own glitch style.

Especially since it falls on a Saturday, this is a show not to miss.
