On Thursday, July 21, the family-style band that backs the eccentric Gene Evaro Jr. will be joining Santa Cruz-based Boostive at Bocci’s Cellar in his hometown.

Boostive is a hip-hop blend of experimental dub outfit with shifting lineups and no less than seven people on stage at once. Following a springtime appearance at Serenity Gathering, a festival experience held around the spring equinox in Joshua Tree, Boostive has plans to relocate to the SoCal end of the spectrum.

Helping see them off proper is current Joshua Tree resident Gene Evaro Jr. Evaro, a multi-instrumentalist who takes over lead vox and on-stage inspiration is backed by Ben Kennedy on drums, Piper Robison on bass, Mitchell Arganda on percussion and features vocalist Amanda Davis along with the brass section of Clint Stoker on saxophone and Scott Kisinger on trombone. Recently, the group appeared at the 26th High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, CA.

Thursday’s show is not without stress, however. Originally scheduled to appear at the intimate and local Santa Cruz favorite, The Crepe Place, yesterday morning Boositve was informed that The Crepe Place had double booked them — a second time — and cancelled on Boostive a second time.

Stop by Bocci’s Cellar and say farewell.
