As previously mentioned, the 2016 20th Street Block Party will take place on August 20th. This year, however, the 20th Street Block Party will not just take place on 20th Street, and will expand the music and other festivities to 19th street.
The music lineup this year will include Chicano Batman, Miami Horror, Boulevards, Nico Yaryan, Hazel English, Spooky Mansion, and Madeline Kenney. This is just part one of what’s to come in anticipation of this event; additional details about food, etc. will be announced at a later date.
This year’s event is also unique in that it will feature a partnership with Mission Language and Vocational School (MLVS):
MLVS is a private, nonprofit community education and workforce development center, providing occupational skills training and Vocational English as a Second Language to primarily Latino, unemployed and working-poor immigrants and their families, as well as other underserved groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. The school currently offers certification programs in medical assisting, culinary arts (with a catering operation as economic development), office technology, and basic education (English, math, computer literacy). As MLVS embarks on its 48th year of operation, it continues onward and upward in the spirit and legacy of its longtime Director, the late Rosario Anaya. The partnership with Noise Pop’s 20th Street Block Party this year will be a major fundraiser, including a very special brunch and ceremony to dedicate the MLVS building at 2929 – 19th Street, SF to the memory of Rosario Anaya, renaming it Centro Educacional de Rosario Anaya / Rosario Anaya Education Center.
Since MLVS is located on 19th street, they will specifically co-curate the activities that will take place on the 19th street expansion this year.
20th Street Block Party is a FREE event, but there are also special VIP tickets available. Check out www.20thstreetblockparty.com for more info!
