It’s been two years since Cocktails ‘ last major release, but that doesn’t mean that they just disappeared from the Bay Area music scene all together. Oh no: Not only have they been playing shows all over the city, we at The Bay Bridged have been waiting patiently to able to listen to what they have been working on. The wait is almost over, and on July 8 (the day before Phono Del Sol, by the way) Cocktails’ new album Hypochondriac will be out to the world via Father/Daughter Records (click to go preorder).
The band recorded the new album at John Vanderslice’s iconic Tiny Telephone studio. They not only practiced for months before going in to record, but made sure to use all the shiny and rare synthesizers and vintage analog gear available to them. They wanted to make this record special, and kept the live energy by recording it directly to tape.
Now they are here to tease us with a taste of Hypochondriac with the title track. Tomorrow it will be available for download in digital stores, but for now play it on repeat until your impatience takes over the “chill” persona you’ve created. When that impatience erupts, you can pre-order the album and even buy tickets for their record release on July 22 at Bottom of the Hill.
