The Wine & Bowtie-curated Feels festival is back for its fifth installment and boy, it (Feels V)ery wonderful. If the last time around was a celebration of fall, this next time around is a full-fledged summer preview featuring the same eclectic, DIY heart and love of hip-hop that fuels the organization.
On May 28, they’ll return to West Oakland’s American Steel Studios, which hosted the last two Feels festivals, to bring a multidisciplinary festival where locals truly shine. The choices of music, art, zines, and food show that the organizers really put care into each and every decision so that no one aspect plays second fiddle.
Topping the music bill is Berkeley’s own Based God/purveyor of positive vibes Lil B, fellow Berkeley resident Toro Y Moi playing DJ (who may draw on his work with Les Sins for the set, if the Feels V playlist is giving any hints), and LA-based R&B/soul musician Georgia Anne Muldrow. Some of the visual artists featured include Kristofferson San Pablo, Chaz Bundick (of Toro Y Moi), and Vivian Fu. If we interpreted the website announcement correctly, Shade Zine did some work curating the lineup of artists and zines at the festival, so they should be all work checking out. You can take a look at the full lineup on the poster above, or if you’re into a more interactive activity, on their website.
As a local organization, we always appreciate other local folks organizing great events for the enjoyment and appreciation of their fellow community, and Wine & Bowties are really stepping up to the plate of a supremely-curated local festival. You can check out their Soundcloud playlist of this year’s lineup on their announcement page, and watch those tickets! The round of Early Bird passes is already sold out.
