Last weekend saw the inaugural Silicon Valley Comic Con take place at the San Jose Convention Center. Three days of featured guest speakers and celebrities such as the original Back to the Future cast, the local talent from Mythbusters, and a keynote presentation from Apple co-founder and all-around nicest tech guy in the universe, Steve Wozniak. The first-annual event showed enough energy to hopefully warrant more of the same in the years to come.
There were many attendees in costume, ranging from the ever-popular Star Wars (of course) to the more recent fandoms of Game of Thrones and The Dark Knight, to the sometimes lesser-known Darkstalkers.
Wax figures, dressed-up fans galore, notable celebrity speakers — what more could a comic fan ask for? Our photographer Jon Bauer attended the event and captured much of the energy and inventiveness of the guests and speakers alike in this amazing collection of photos from the weekend. Take a look at some key photos below from the even and the full gallery below.
The crew from the Empire and a Tusken Raider take a break from their search for their own respective droids to pose for a photo.
Wax figurine of Albert Einstein, a man normally seen sticking his tongue out at people and more recently in the news for his now-confirmed theory on the existence of gravitational rifts.
If there’s a comic convention, there’s a high likelihood that Stan Lee, the 93-year-old legend, will make an appearance.
Darth Maul gets a touch-up, which makes one wonder how the man keeps his horns so perfectly polished when he has to worry about the correct shade of red on his face.
R2-D2 roaming the halls seems all too common to capture the attention of attendees.
A stormtrooper. A Segway. A soccer ball. Segway Polo.
Kara Swisher (Re/code), Steve Wozniak (some company called Apple), Palmer Luckey (Oculus Rift) give a keynote Q&A.
