Foxtails Brigade 2016

The Foxtails Brigade camp has tons of great news to share this week. For one, the Oakland chamber folk group is releasing a new self-titled album, their third, on April 8th. The follow-up to their 2012 effort Time is Passed will be released on fellow Oaklanders OIM Records. What’s also particularly notable is that they’ve struck a deal to release the album in Japan via Rallye.

To tide you over until April, they have also released the first single from the record, a percussive and haunting number called “We Are Not Ourselves.” The chamber-inflected folk they churn out here is dizzying and textured, with rich strings and buzzy guitar lines serving as brilliant counterpoints to singer Laura Weinbach. Her intricate and powerful vocal style really conjuring up the vibe of a sinister lullaby. You can take a listen below.

It’s a peculiarly wonderful return for the now “fully realized” five-piece collective, which includes members Anton Patzner (Bright Eyes, Pinback), multi-instrumentalist Josh Pollock (John Kale, Van Dyke Parks), bassist Joe Lewis and percussionist Dominic Mercurio. The band’s first show of the year will take place as support for the Cave Singers at their Noise Pop show this February. For more info, check out the listing right below.
