uptown

Welcome back, Uptown, we missed you! Oakland’s nightlife staple The Uptown Nightclub, which closed its doors suddenly in early November 2014 after the owners chose not to renew the lease, has announced that they will be reopening as a special events venue. To kick off their official grand reopening on New Year’s Eve with Hubba Hubba Revue, the venue is throwing a special pre-party this Tuesday — the Food Drive Extravaganza.

The event boasts a slew of great East Bay bands — GODS, the Hot Toddies, Sweetwater Black, and Bam!Bam! — as well as local DJs Parentz, raffle prizes from local fixtures like Slumberland Records and Blackbird Underpinnings, and pictures with Santa (if you want to get your “Grown-Up Christmas List” on).

The event has a dual function of a fun “Welcome Back” party for the venue as well as a fundraiser for the Alameda Food Bank, which always needs the greatest help during the holiday season. In fact, those who bring a dry food donation only have to pay $5 to get through the door! Acceptable donations that the bank specified as high demand, besides canned items, include peanut butter, pasta, beans, rice, low-sugar cereal, tomato sauce, and powdered milk.

Celebrate the holiday season with not one, but two great causes!
