Another Saturday night is quickly approaching — where will you be? Celebrating the seventh night of Hanukkah? Spending an evening bundled under the covers because you’re too cold to move? If you’re still in need of some plans, we at the Bay Bridged have got you covered again. We’re presenting Luke Sweeney and a couple other great local bands this Saturday at El Rio, and you’re invited!
Local rock ‘n’ roll favorite Luke Sweeney has spent the majority of late 2015 touring up and down the coast and, more recently, all around the Bay. Fittingly, he’s closing out the year with his “Holiday in Amnesia” residency, where he’ll be joined each night with a different array of local musicians. He’s still riding the wave of his debut record Adventure:Us, which is chock full of retro-rock gems and doo-woppy ballads. Check out a 1920’s-inspired magic carpet ride — with amazing green screen technology to boot — in the video for “Doin’ It To You,” off Adventure: Us (Aerobic International Records).
Main support of the night comes from Union Pacific, the project of Tuscon native and multi-instrumentalist Zach Vito. Their debut self-titled EP came out last year on the LA-based label Lolipop Records. While they haven’t released anything official since the sweet dusty jangle pop of the debut, they’ve been teasing a new album all year and streamed a new demo for a bit on Soundcloud. For now, you can listen to a cut from the EP, “He Told Her.”
Finally, Oakland-based six-piece The Pleasure Routine, the project of singer/guitarist Kevin Sofsrud and bassist Kirk Jacobs, will top off the night with wonderfully idiosyncratic rock ‘n’ raw bangers. Their debut is in the pipeline and has yet to be released, but take a listen to this standout track from their EP 2014, “Walk the Dog (Backwards).”
We hope you’ll join us for a night of glitz, glam, and all-around good times.
