The Mantels

Last month The Bay Bridged wrote about “Police My Love,” the “peppy and vintage” new single by local garage pop band The Mantles off their upcoming full-length All Odds End. The quintet is now streaming the whole thing over on both Stereogum and SoundCloud ahead of their upcoming record release show this Saturday at the Whitehorse Bar in Oakland.

Opening with the immediately sunny “Island,” the band don’t let up on cultivating an atmosphere of approachability that makes the 10-track effort go down effortlessly. All Odds End is the kind of album that will never leave your car’s 6-disc CD changer (if you still have one of those) — it sounds fresh and inviting in any situation or mood. Album highlight “Lately” strips things down with a meditative acoustic guitar that grows increasingly comforting in its repetition. Meanwhile the band turns the energy marginally up for the “Hate to See You Go,” where lead singer Michael Olivares’ ruminates over the end of a relationship that leaves both parties seemingly as lost as they were before.

The band is sure to give those songs, as well as others off the record, their live debut come this weekend — so be sure to clear your schedule for Saturday night. In the meantime you can prepare by having their album stream on constant rotation, at least until you can pick up the physical release and load it into your 6-disc CD changer.
