No one sounds quite like Battles. Their most recent effort, the formidable La Di Da Di, is as immediately striking as their last record (2011’s tirelessly playful Gloss Drop), but gets there with far fewer bodies in the room — forgoing the string of guest vocalists they experimented with on their previous release for a record-length showcase of Ian Williams, Dave Konopka, and John Stanier’s musical chemistry. The three have been playing together since 2002, and have proven time and time again that their instrumental work sings just as well as any of their vocal-featuring tracks.
La Di Da Di is as propulsive as their past work – with rattling rhythms and jagged guitars – and the sounds captured on record translate to a powerful live experience. Battles’ set at FYF was all my friends spoke of regarding their festival experience, with Stanier’s drumming in particular leaving the most lasting impression. Those same friends all have tickets for Battles’ upcoming show at the Fillmore this Friday – and you should too. Tickets are still available, but check out the details below if you are looking to win a free pass for you and a friend.
To enter for a chance to win tickets to see Battles at The Fillmore, email firstname.lastname@example.org with “Battles” in the subject line and your full name in the body of the email. A winner will be selected at random and notified via email.
