Perhaps because it sits on the edge of city limits and has a reputation for being perennially fog-ridden, Ocean Beach seldom gets noticed by the San Francisco masses who live closer to the Bay.

Hopefully, this weekend’s Ocean Beach Music and Art Festival will help change that perception and give a little more street cred to the neighborhoods that abut the Pacific Ocean. Returning for the second consecutive year to Noriega Street in the Outer Sunset, the free event will feature 20 diverse musical acts performing on Saturday.

The lineup consists almost exclusively of local San Francisco acts, including Down Dirty Shake, Air Surgeon, Travis Hayes, DJ Dan, and Gene Washington and the Ironsides, among others. Attendees can expect to hear an array of different musical styles, ranging from garage rock to soul grooves to electronic sets. There will even be a Kiss cover band (Destroyer), which should be a staple at all music gatherings.

The festival, scheduled to last from 11 am – 7 pm, is more than just music. There will be food vendors, beer gardens and live art installations. Kids are also welcome to play in a mobile petting zoo and explore a special pumpkin patch set up for the event, which will take place on Noriega Street between 45th and 47th Avenue. The Outer Noriega Merchant Association sponsors the music and arts fest.
