Fresh off the release of their critically-acclaimed LP New Bermuda, the world’s most talked about black metal band Deafheaven return to San Francisco to play The Fillmore on Saturday, Oct 17. Released over two years after Sunbather catapulted the band to international fame, New Bermuda is a musical tour-de-force that sounds unlike any other metal album ever recorded — from hair metal to Sixpence None the Richer to piano interludes to slide guitar, New Bermuda is the sound of Deafheaven expressing their post-modern millennial listening habits. The internet killed the genre gatekeepers and Deafheaven may be the first “digital” metal band — more Drake than Danzig in their musical appropriation and melodic hues.
Fortunately, Deafheaven are not just a studio band. Their live shows are polished and punishing, all the more reason to go see the band in person on Saturday, Oct 17 at the Fillmore.
