Good news for comedy-fans and Bay Area festival-goers alike: Treasure Island Music Festival announced today that this year’s event will feature a comedy tent — named The Blah Blah Blah Tent and co-presented by Funny or Die — for the first time. Comedy stages and tents have become a staple at music festivals in recent years, typically offering a chance to sit down, cool off in an air-conditioned tent (probably not needed for Treasure Island), and have a few laughs. It’s a good move for the festival and puts them in line with bigger festival names like Outside Lands, FYF, and Bonnaroo, all of whom have included comedians in their lineups.
Performers at the 2015 Treasure Island comedy tent on Saturday include Tim Heidecker, one half of the comedy team of Tim & Eric; Jonah Ray, co-host of the popular Nerdist Podcast and The Meltdown on Comedy Central; John Dore; Hey™: An Afternoon with Kate Berlant and John Early; Max Silvestri; Barry Rothbart; and Jermaine Fowler.
Sunday’s lineup features Jerrod Carmichael, who created and stars in the new NBC series The Carmichael Show; Chris Gethard; a live taping of the podcast with Special Guest Lauren Lapkus; a live podcast of Throwing Shade with Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi; Guy Branum Presents: Talk Show: The Game Show; Michelle Wolf; and an encore performance from Jermaine Fowler.
Unfortunately, I don’t recognize any of these names as being Bay Area comics, but if someone with a better knowledge of the local comedy scene cares to enlighten us otherwise… please comment below.
