Bay Area, meet Oakland’s Madeline Kenney. Madeline’s a recent Seattle transplant who is sharing a brand new video for her track “Heart Lion” for the first time today, and it’s one hell of an introduction. Kenney shot the video herself with friends she has made since the move, who as she puts it, are “displaying their general badassery and destroying their insecurities in the process. (In this case, embodied by me….covered in glitter.)” It definitely brings general baddassery from the women along with some great East Bay shots but the song itself is phenomenal on its own. It’s a little dark, with little unexpected moments throughout that make it subtly yet absolutely beautiful. With the visuals, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Kenney recently opened for Waterstrider at Brick and Mortar, and will be performing at Awaken Cafe in Oakland this Saturday. She tells me she is in the process of recording a full album for a 2016 release. For now, I’ll just watch the video over and over, and I won’t blame you for doing the same.
