astronauts, etc.

Chaz Bundick and Anthony Ferraro seem to be teaming up in many musical ways these days. Aside from being East Bay chums, Mr. Ferraro plays keyboard in Toro y Moi‘s touring band (aka Chaz & co) and will be playing double duty as Toro’s opening act with his bedroom-project-turned-full-band Astronauts, etc. All this musical synergy has put forth a brilliant cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man.”

From the first few seconds of Ferraro’s reverb-cushioned vocals, Astronauts, etc, with special guest Mr. Bundick, give the sleepy piano rock hit the spacey vibe it deserves. From plunky basslines to an extended keyboard hook-laden jam solo, they take the song to an outer space level while keeping it grounded in the clutches of a sultry R&B groove. Take a listen below!

On top of all this juicy news, Astronauts, etc are also streaming their new record, Mind Out Wanderingon Hype Machine. Take a listen before it comes out this Friday (9/18)!

Sadly, there are no Bay Area shows on their current support tour (save for a spot at Sacramento’s TBD Fest), but if you’re inclined to take a local music-driven journey up to Portland, be our esteemed guest and take lots of photos.
