Tom Iansek and Jo Syme are the team that make up the Australian band Big Scary and have been making music for nearly 9 years. The band’s humble beginnings started off simply performing on acoustic guitars and egg shakers in their respective parents’ living rooms and slowly building their sound towards a wider audience.
They’ve been working hard and have made more inroads with their 2013 release Not Art on Barsuk Records and currently putting the finishing touches on a new untitled third album. For a small team, the band certainly builds on a stadium sound without sounding too anthemic; the reverberating guitars give an expansive touch while the pulsing synths give a fist-pumping quality that effortlessly mixes garage rock, pop and intimacy all at once. Take a listen to the first single “Organism” from their as-yet untitled third album below.
The band will be coming to our humble city this Friday to the Brick & Mortar Music Hall with support from Sacramento-based band The Off Years. Tickets are still available but The Bay Bridged also has two tickets to give away. Simply follow the directions below for you and a friend to have a chance to win.
