Our own local punk rock heroes Thee Oh Sees are coming home next week! While they’ll be making a few appearances around the Bay, it’s their two-night residency at the beautiful and classic Great American Music Hall that especially has my attention.
Currently on tour in support of their latest album (9th by my count, but in reality it’s a lot higher than that with the many name-changes and side-projects), Mutilator Defeated At Last, the band has been all over the country with their new touring lineup featuring core member John Dwyer on guitar and vocals, Timothy Hellman on bass and two drummers, Ryan Moutinho and Dan Rincon.

I was lucky enough to catch them as the first band of the day on the main stage at Bottlerock in Napa in 2014 and the crowd that turned out for them was not disappointed. Despite it being barely noon and people only starting to arrive at the festival grounds, Dwyer and company gave a rousing performance, showing amazing technical guitar skills and powering through song after song, fiddling with the many amps and speakers behind him in a snazzy pair of shorts.
They’ve headlined our own Phono del Sol and played in the crowd as evidenced by the photo at the top, bringing a ton of energy to any of their live shows. Whether or not you know all of the songs doesn’t matter (and seeing as they have amped up the releases by putting out a new album or EP often within months of one another, it’s only going to get harder).
The reality is you will be guaranteed a great live show by a band coming home for a victory lap. And luckily two of those nights, Monday August 24th and Wednesday August 26th, will be at one of my personal favorite music venues in San Francisco, the Great American Music Hall. The historic building is a landmark in the local music scene, many legendary bands and singers gracing the stage on their stops to the Bay Area.
Tickets are still available for both of these shows, but if you’d like a chance to win tickets to the Wednesday night show on August 26th, then now is your chance. Follow the instructions below and you can win a pair of tickets for you and a friend to go and enjoy some excellent live music at an excellent venue.
