Oakland rockers The Tet Holiday have been in the trenches of recording for a long time now, and they’re finally giving the public a peek at what they’ve been working on. This week, the band released a lyric video for “By the Throat, By the Heart,” the first single from their upcoming debut full length, Statues, which comes out on September 15th. In the words of songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Andrew Ledford:
We aren’t big fans of the traditional YouTube, Windows Media Player-aesthetic lyrics videos, so we attempted to do something more interesting to us in collaboration with our friend Kevin. The goal was to have a sense of humor about it while still serving its purpose.
It’s a playful, distinct, quite possibly charming take on the form. The song gives you a taste of one side of their sound, with layered guitars, an insistent rhythm section, and a keen melodic focus. Watch the video, and keep an eye out for The Tet Holiday. They’ve got a bunch of shows this summer, and an album release show at the Hemlock Tavern on September 12th.
