San Francisco hardcore outfit Scalped announced a full U.S. tour and a new EP on Video Disease. The last time I caught this band, the vocalist had already ditched his shirt and Tony Molina was posted in the corner with his guitar strap adjusted to collar bone height for optimal riffing angles. Sadly, it seems Tony’s time with the band has come to an end (via announcement on their Bandcamp), but if the new EP and tour plans are any indication, the group has no intention of slowing down. 2nd EP opens with a sample from SF rapper San Quinn‘s record The Hustle Continues and a series of heavy palm mutes before a guttural bark breaks open the song “Progress”. The songs on this EP feel less metallic than last year’s 7″. You can, however, still imagine two people fighting in the street while a massive audience looks on, warranting their identification as “spinkick-metal”. The riffs are awesome; the songs are great.

Coming on the heels of an interview and feature in Thrasher Magazine, Scalped will be heading out on their first U.S. Tour this summer, which sees them playing with DC’s GIVE and doing dates with Pittsburgh’s Concealed Blade.
