Sleep Spindles is a band from the Central Valley comprised of Celso Carrasco, Nick Diamante, and Evan Santa Elena. They play a dreamy, ambient style of alternative rock that reminds me a lot of Juturna-era Circa Survive, that’s just as haunting as the name Sleep Spindles would imply. Evan’s casual and melodic vocals float over Celso’s angular guitar work, and if it weren’t for Nick’s drumming and the catchy choruses it would be really easy to get lost in all the sounds, but the song writing holds it together.

The group just released their debut EP, When Your Teeth Crowd, the cover of which features a translucent blue woman cradling her head in her hands, drawn by the band’s guitar player. The release is comprised of six really thoughtful songs, and they are damn good. The EP is out on Open Door Records, and the group just released a video for the single “Wisdom Teeth”. The video features overlaid footage of skylines and obscure wooded areas, with the band members walking through the trees and glitching back and forth, never quite looking at the viewer, like some strange fever dream. Sleep Spindles just announced a tour with California’s Cursed Graves, which takes them on a short West Coast run. Check out the dates, video, and full EP below.
