The Y Axes, the self-proclaimed “space pop” band, are back with a new song called “Monsters,” and you can listen to it here.

The track is a catchy pop-indie-rock single that showcases the vocal abilities of lead singer Alexi Belchere and Devin Nelson, memorable melodies from Nelson and Jon Lanthier, and a stirring rhythm arrangement courtesy of Aaron Larson and Nick Schneider (who is also another writer here at The Bay Bridged!).

The song is about losing your sense of self over time — a pervasive phenomenon — and the process of how we interpret fear, love, and every other facet of life before it ends up dissipating or changing or shifting. “Monsters” explores how one can either fall into the feeling and situation or use the moment to alter who you are.

Belchere says about the track: “In the song, I imagine a group of people holed up in a hideout, trying to avoid an insidious “monster.” I imagine that during this hibernation, the group evolves into a pack, and over time the monsters they fear start to look and sound no different from them.”

You can catch The Y Axes as they play this song (and many, many more) tonight at Bottom of the Hill!
