Boston hometown heroes Pile are sliding through California with four Bay Area shows this week, the second of which takes place tonight at San Francisco’s Hemlock Tavern with local support from Couches, Wag, and Friends w/o Benefits.
The post-punk four-piece (Matt Becker, Matt Connery, Kris Kuss, Rick Maguire) recently embarked on a rigorous tour itinerary following the release of their Exploding In Sound breakthrough You’re Better Than This, including an extended stretch in Austin for SXSW. Pile just played four consecutive nights in LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and San Jose.
Taking zero breaks, they’ll play two additional Oakland gigs on Friday and Saturday following tonight’s Polk Street performance. Friday’s show is at The Night Light where Pile will perform during Mall Walk‘s 7-inch release party with Beekeepers and Disappearing People. Last chance to catch these rising Bostonians is at 1-2-3-4 Go! Records this Saturday night with Crush and Never Young.
While Pile’s SXSW stint may have been slightly overshadowed by fellow Massachusetts mainstays like Krill and Speedy Ortiz, the band is on a fast track to spread their post-hardcore energy well beyond the Boston music scene. Pile returns to Boston on April 29 with a few days to catch up on pressing additional copies of You’re Better Than This before heading out to Canada and Europe in May.
