Slacker rockers WAG have a new single out to get y’all warmed up for their slacker rocker-studded show at the Hemlock April 2 featuring Couches, Friends W/O Benefits and the very cool, very underrated East Coast post-punk outfit Pile.
Titled “New Power”, it is a sparse reflection on society’s obsession with/over-reliance on technology, poignantly noting that acoustic guitars will remain to provide us with music “once the power goes out.” They sound a bit world-weary on this one, as if information overload and digitized socialization have finally sucked out the last vestiges of humanity, leaving us as soulless as the laptops and smartphones we’ve become so addicted to.
Maybe I’m reading too deeply into the song or maybe I haven’t read it deeply enough. Check it out and decide for yourself.
