Oakland’s Tabernacle is a project fronted by Oakland’s Andrew Simmons that rarely plays shows and just releases music whenever Simmons feels like it. There’s plenty of bands around town that release music like this that normally wouldn’t capture our attention. But there aren’t many bands like this that are this damn…good.
Tabernacle has a sound that doesn’t quite sound like much I’ve heard before: at times I get the feeling like I’m in the middle of one of those epic James McMurty tales except it’s set in a California soundscape, and I appreciate that. Simmons, who fronted local band Sands (aka Dame Satan), says there’s no solid plans for proper Tabernacle releases or shows in the near future, so make sure to make the most of your enjoyment of their latest – “Bury a Tooth” followed by “Let Me Be”:
