Maybe it’s my constant vocal adoration of them, or the fact that I’m prone to ignoring anyone around me when their music starts to play, but somehow I’m pretty sure you all know what I’m going to say. My favorite band of 2014 is, without a doubt, so super seriously, Waterstrider.
As a live set, whether focusing on lead singer Nate Salman’s wildly captivating falsetto vocals, Brijean Murphys’ deliciously flavorful percussion, Scott Brown properly holding it down on the bass, Walker Johnson delivering it like a beast on drums, or Drew Brown solidifying the deal with his tasty synth and guitar skills, there is something to be had for any music fiend to geek out on.
From the first time I heard their song “Constellation”, to the constant play and replay of their single Redwood that won them Best Song by an Oakland Band in the 2014 Mayhem Festival, I have thoroughly digested each piece of the feast they have laid before us.
Featured as the opening track on the Oaktown Indie Mayhem compilation to be released in March 2015 with Producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Blondie) this band has beyond rocked my world. If you haven’t heard them yet, I invite you now to let them sink their melodic talons into the depths of your soul. I can’t assure you they wont rip your heart out, but I do feel I can safely say that they’ll be just as quick to lap up the mess.
