The Uptown

You guys, The Uptown is closing.

It’s nothing personal. While owner Larry Trujillo has made it clear that it’s “simply a business decision,” it’s still a major bummer.

While it’s shocking, it’s not surprising – it certainly wouldn’t be the first venue in the Bay to shut its doors suddenly and with virtually no warning this year. It’s also worth noting that the area around it has classed itself up quite a bit since the Uptown opened in 2005, which may have contributed to the venue’s financial viability.

For most of its nine-year run, The Uptown has been one of the Bay Area’s most venerable venues, serving up consistently solid entertainment from established hometown heroes to before-they-were-famous up-and-comers. The venue’s final show will be surf king Dick Dale on November 5.
