“You wanna know who and what I am?” asks a heavily-made up woman with a vacant stare in her blurred, VHS-quality eyes. “I’m a killer.”
Fair enough. You’ve chosen homicide as your career path – not exactly reasonable or rational, but unfortunately nothing too out of the ordinary.
But no, this maniac just wants everyone to be clear about how she goes about committing her crimes: “I kill with my cunt.”
Yep, that’s how Blood Sister’s new video for “Ghost Twin” kicks off, but it’s not exactly new footage – the video, produced by the band’s frontman Ezana Edwards, pulls clips from long forgotten 1982 sci-fi cult flick Liquid Sky.
“I came across the trailer for Liquid Sky a few years ago and had to watch immediately,” explains Edwards. “The plot involves aliens who kill people when they orgasm in a scene of really glamorous, evil people. There’s a lot of great hair and makeup but at its core the film is pretty disturbing.”
Yeah, it kinda sounds that way. Here’s the plot summary from IMDb:
Invisible aliens in a tiny flying saucer come to Earth looking for heroin. They land on top of a New York apartment inhabited by a drug dealer and her female, androgynous, bisexual nymphomaniac lover, a fashion model. The aliens soon find the human pheromones created in the brain during orgasm preferable to heroin, and the model’s casual sex partners begin to disappear. This increasingly bizarre scenario is observed by a lonely woman in the building across the street, a German scientist who is following the aliens, and an equally androgynous, drug-addicted male model. (Both models are played by Anne Carlisle, in a dual role.) Darkly funny and thoroughly weird.
It’s that kind of lunacy that provides the backdrop for “Ghost Twin”, a track off Blood Sister’s new self-titled EP (via Bloodmoss Records) with heavy doses of distortion and eerie, ethereal vocals. More scenes from Liquid Sky are spliced into the video, often featuring a mirror effect so that two of every character (twins?) are featured. Watch it below, and be sure to catch Blood Sister’s two December shows in San Francisco (info after the video).
