Our first introduction to Royal Jelly Jive came in the form of their slinky-noir music video debut for “Deep Dark Night” at San Francisco’s Music Video Race. Now the throwback gypsy-blues outfit is preparing to release a debut self-titled CD, and they’re celebrating by throwing a party at Slim’s this Thursday. In case you’re coming from Santa Rosa or Petaluma, you can purchase tickets to ride something called the Hootenanny Express, a traveling BYOB party bus that will take you directly to Slim’s and includes admission to the venue. Presented by Bourgeois Productions, the CD release party also features a line-up of Bay Area talent such as the Highway Poets and Marty O’Reilly & The Old Soul Orchestra.
Born from their residency last year at the Boom Boom Room, Royal Jelly Jive’s lineup consists of Lauren Bjelde, Jesse “Lemme” Adams, Felix Macnee, Danny Cao, Robby Elfman, and Tyden Binstead. Lauren’s sultry lyrics are inspired by her field work and and world travels, which includes studying Mesopotamia while living in Istanbul. Fun note: Jesse is also in the locally based surfy garage rock act Lemme Adams.
Premiering today at The Bay Bridged is their first single “Pterygophora”, which apparently is the winged sea kelp that only grows on the coast of California. It starts out strong with blasting horns, and delves into a liberated exploration of oceanic landscapes. Song is below!
