Oxford, Mississippi’s Bass Drum of Death recently announced that they will release their third full-length Rip This on October 7 via Innovative Leisure, and the band just shared the track “For Blood”, the album’s second single. The new record – on which frontman John Barrett is joined by newly minted full-time member and collaborator Len Clark on drums and Unknown Mortal Orchestra bassist Jacob Portrait in the role of producer – was recorded in March at Prairie Sun Studios in Sonoma County and is an attempt at an unapologetic rock album to attract people from outside their usual fan base. As for new single, Barrett explains, “I wanted to play around with the ‘quiet-loud-quiet’ formula a bit, since most of our songs are just loud all the way through. Figured it’d be oddly fitting, since the song is about being hungover.”
Below, listen to “For Blood” along with the first single from ‘Rip This, “Left For Dead”, and then get details on Bass Drum of Death’s upcoming tour including their October 20 gig at Great American Music Hall.
