SoCal expats Mahgeetah recently announced that they will join New Albany, Indiana’s Houndmouth at The Independent on September 27 for what promises to be a decidedly rootsy evening. Although the two bands differ quite a bit geographically, they share much sonically – both acts come strong with an array of Americana influences from the worlds of rock, folk, blues, rhythm and blues, and country too – and that should make for an elevating experience down on Divisadero.

Mahgeetah took their name from the My Morning Jacket song of the same name, and the band has started to play shows in fits and spurts again, nearly two years following the release of their excellent LP Heavy Baby. Listen to “Buttons” off that release, below.

Houndmouth will also bring a decidedly jammy feel to the Indy. The band made a bit of noise with the release of their album From The Hills Below The City in 2013, eventually getting some higher profile gigs including Outside Lands, Lollapalooza, and Sasquatch!, and even did a great version of their track “On The Road” on Conan (although Team Coco apparently only saves videos for so long, and the only evidence that remains is a potato quality DailyMotion video). They’ve been touring pretty much non-step ever since, and it’s good to see them back in the City by the Bay. Watch their official video for standout track “Penitentiary”, and then get full details on this month’s show at The Independent.
