San Francisco’s Violent Change released their second LP A Celebration of Taste via city-based label Melters back in June. Following the band’s excellent 2012 debut EP Suck On The Gun and last year’s self-titled full-length (both of which featured a somewhat rotating cast of musicians including Tony Molina), frontman Matt “Gladys” Bleyle is joined this time around by “fellow noise maker/kindred spirit” Sterling Mackinnon, and the result is, well, nothing short of excellent.
A Celebration of Taste‘s 13 tracks clock in at only a combined twenty-two minutes, but it’s twenty-minutes of pure power pop punk bliss that will often slip into more experimental noise pieces – the band claims to “still observe the rites of their devout GBV worship, while bringing in experimental, abstract sounds à la Flying Saucer Attack or the Dead C,” and we couldn’t agree more.
Violent Change brings its new stock of tracks to 1-2-3-4 Go! Records on Sunday night, opening the evening for Rat Columns and headliner The Young. Below, stream A Celebration of Taste in its entirety, and then get details on Sunday’s gig in Oakland.
