Wood Shoppe, for those uninitiated, is a free monthly concert series every first Tuesday night at Brick & Mortar. This upcoming Tuesday will feature an all-local swarm of familiar faces playing indie-folk / heart-on-sleeve rock & roll, beginning with SF’s Travis Hayes.
You may know Travis from his recent string of shows on both sides of the bay, playing in support of his summer-released debut LP, Young Daze. Heard best with a tumbler of whiskey in hand, it’s a charming coming-of-age album, and word on the street is that he’ll have a crazy music video for “Bath Salts” coming soon. Or you may know him as the newly appointed talent buyer for Inner Richmond’s Neck of the Woods music venue, where he also throws Tell All Your Friends emo-themed nights. Either way, you should familiarize yourself.
Up next will be City Tribe with their soaring, searingly endearing folk vocals. They also recently released their debut LP this month, Undertow, with much press attention from Paste Magazine, PopMatters, and USA Today. Lead vocalist and electric guitarist Duncan Nielsen moonlights as the frontman for DonCat as well.
Ghost & Gale will close the night with their last blow-out show before escaping to create another album. Boy-girl duo Brodie Jenkins and David Luning concoct moving emotional theatrics that quietly pronounce beauty as a necessity to music. Their sound makes you long for porch filled dreams left startlingly silent, and an honesty that can only be found in the conversation before dawn breaks. As a side note, (though to no small feat), Brodie Jenkins is also in the booming, lush CATHEDRALS that recently sold out The Chapel.
