Hiero Day 2014

Returning for its third installment, Hiero Day is this Monday, September 1. Celebrating not only the legendary Hieroglyphics Crew, but also Oakland’s hip-hop culture, with over 30 artists scheduled to perform. What began with a Facebook comment that suggested a celebration in honor of “93 ’til Infinity” has grown into a massive, free, all day festival that is expected to draw 15,000 people to Linden Street Brewery, nearly doubling last year’s crowd.

This is a special event no matter the reason, Hiero Day could be considered the local release celebration for Souls of Mischief, who just this week dropped There is Only Now, produced by Adrian Younge, who is also scheduled to appear at the festival. Guest appearances on the album from Ali Shaheed Muhammed, Snoop, and Busta Rhymes will deservedly receive plenty of attention, but man, Younge and the Souls make a perfect team. Listen for yourself.

I could go on and on about the depth of the lineup, but I’ll let you check it out above if you still need a reason to go celebrate on Monday. Admission is COMPLETELY FREE and all ages are welcome, but you can donate to the cause (in exchange for various gifts) right here.
