The Coathangers came rumbling from Atlanta, born from the notion that starting a band is first about having fun, and then about playing an instrument. Naturally, their fourth studio album, Suck My Shirt, (out via Suicide Squeeze) follows suit—the name comes from an instant when tequila spilled on one of the band members’ shirts, and well, you can figure out the rest.
So far, the new album has caught the ear of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and more, and with good reason—their sound is infectiously low-maintenance, with ample amounts of raspy vocals and brassy hooks grinding against grungy guitar lines. It’s boisterous and rowdy, obviously, but that’s the beauty of it.
The trio will be playing Rickshaw Stop August 12 as part of Pro Fans 020 Showcase. Check out the single “Follow Me” below (which you can also download).
