Los Angeles-based outfit Spindrift cinematized their Western-flavored psychedelic rock in a new film titled, Spindrift: Ghost of the West. Directed by Burke Roberts and completed with a soundtrack of both original material and singing cowboy standards, the movie was shot during the band’s 2012 Ghost Town Tour, a month-long stint that brought them through 21 of America’s abandoned towns and historic desert sites. The resulting film is a blend of dusty psych and golden-era John Wayne classics — a tripped-out Spaghetti Western on a cocktail of Quaaludes and LSD.
Spindrift mastermind Kirpatrick Thomas and his band are taking the movie on the road and making a stop at Milk Bar on Wednesday, July 30, when they’ll host the second-ever live performance and screening of Spindrift: Ghost of the West. The film gets going at 7pm, and the show goes on with a local lineup of The Spiral Electric, Down and Outlaws and of course Down Dirty Shake, who will also be celebrating the grande finale of their stellar July residency. Those guys know how to throw a party, so get there early and stay all night. Spindrift will take the stage once more to headline with a full set, and in true DDS residency fashion, the evening will also feature DJ sets by Al Lover, art by Nina Theda Black , projections by White Light Prism and Victor Trence’s Beer Belly Pop Up Kitchen. Grab some tickets here and get ready for a full sensory experience.
