The Bay Area Record Fair (affectionately referred to as “BARF”) will return for its second takeover of Thee Parkside in San Francisco on Saturday, September 27. Expanding since last year’s inaugural success, the fair has secured permits to block off part of Carolina Street to make way for additional vendors this time. If you’re worried about more records equating to more crowds, you may want to take advantage of BARF’s introductory early bird special. For five dollars – you can get an hour’s head start on the masses by rifling through record crates as early as 11am. General admission is FREE from noon until 5pm, with live performances to be announced.
To further illustrate the appeal of arriving early, here is a list of this year’s participating labels so far (with more to be announced): 1-2-3-4 Go!, Aerobic International, Alternative Tentacles, Antenna Farm, Asian Man, Bright Antenna, Captcha, Castle Face, Chapter Eleven, Constellation Tatsu, Crime On The Moon, Dark Entries, Empty Cellar, Fat Wreck Chords, Father/Daughter, Flesner, Fourth Row, Grazer, Loglady, Melters, Midheaven, Moon Glyph, Parks & Records, Polyvinyl, Record Label Records, Side With Us, Slumberland, Superior Viaduct, Tankcrimes, Tompkins Square, Tricycle, Twelve Gauge, and Voltaire.
Our friends at the Bay Area Record Fair will also be setting up shop at Phono del Sol this Saturday. Swing by their booth to pick up one of your very own $10 “BARF bags”–each comes with a button, sticker, and 21-song compilation CD of bands representing the fair’s participating labels. All proceeds will go directly toward BARF expenses so the fair organizers can continue to keep the event free for attendees and vendors.
