Who loves the sun? The Octopus Literary Salon, silly! Join them this Saturday from 6-10pm at Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland. The event will take place in the MEGADOME! Sit back and enjoy IMAX-style imagery of the sun while listening to the best live music Oakland has to offer, with sets from Raphi Gottesman, Yea-Ming & the Rumours, and Legs.
M. Luke McDonell, a local writer and designer, will read her short piece, “See You Later.” Her near-future fiction explores the effects of technology on individuals and society. Her debut novella, The Perfect Specimen, is available on Amazon and iTunes. There will be sun-inspired readings, plus tamales, beer, wine and coffee. This fest is ALL AGES. Check out Facebook for more information.
When the sun sets, head upstairs to the giant telescopes: Nellie, Rachel and Leah! Soak in the scene light years away…summer is now.
ABOUT THE BANDS:
Raphi Gottesman (of Odawas and The Black Swans -just to name a few) recently completed a West Coast tour celebrating his latest release, Virtual Access. He brings instrumental soundscapes that will transport you skyward.
Yea-Ming (of Dreamdate fame) returns with her new full band, The Rumours. Yea-Ming will melt your heart as the sun warms your skin. Her sweet, soulful, country-tinged recordings are just right for the longest day of the year.
Legs will be playing their very first show in over a year. They have been busy recording new material but will certainly bring out some old classics. Guitarist Matt Bullimore is from New Zealand. Their sounds exist somewhere between there and here, with as many similarities to The Bats (who they opened for last June) and The Clean as there are to The Kinks and The Byrds.
