White Fence

Tim Presley brings his project White Fence to Phono del Sol on July 12 in Potrero del Sol Park in San Francisco and, just ten days later, he’s releasing his fifth full-length album under that moniker, entitled ‘For the Recently Found Innocent’, via Drag City.

As Presley recently told both Spin and Interview, the album was recorded in Ty Segall’s new LA garage-turned-studio with Segall acting as producer, which was a first for Presley – he recorded all of White Fence’s previous albums on his own. Another first – he traded in his usual four-track recorder for Segall’s eight-track.

According to the Spin article, Presley and Segall then drove to San Francisco after finishing the record and enlisted Eric Bauer — who previously worked with Thee Oh Sees, Sic Alps, The Mantles, and Bare Wires, among others — to put the finishing touches on the record.

What’s the result of all of these changes for White Fence? You can hear the early returns first hand on lead single “Like That” (below), a track that throws back to a decidedly ’60s rock sound, calling to mind a mixture of names like the (early) Rolling Stones, CSN, and The Byrds with a hepped up tempo and a solid dose of jangly guitars. This isn’t unusual for White Fence, but there’s something about “Like That” that strikes a delicate balance between lo-fi recording and the polished sound of those ’60s acts.

Listen to “Like That” below, get the full tracklisting for ‘For the Recently Found Innocent’ on Drag City’s website, and don’t miss out on your chance to see Presley and company test out some new tracks (and old favorites) at Phono del Sol.

Be sure to get your tickets to see White Fence alongside Wye Oak, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Nick Waterhouse, Blackbird Blackbird, and more at Phono del Sol now while they’re still available – you can pick them up over on Phono’s ticketing page powered by Eventbrite.
