Parquet Courts by Ben Rayner

Brooklyn-based post-punk band, Parquet Courts, are headlining The Independent on May 27th. While it’s commonly reported that their upcoming LP, Sunbathing Animal, will be the band’s third release, it’s in fact their fourth. After forming in 2010, the band released their debut album, American Specialties, a year later. Put out on cassette via Play Pinball Records, the debut seems forgotten. Instead, 2013’s Light Up Gold took the spot in most people’s mind of debut album. Confused? Read the band’s blunt blog post on the matter.

Light Up Gold was a steady blast of post-punk done right. An album to listen to start-to-finish. There was even a song about…donuts, so I became pretty partial to Parquet Courts pretty fast. Not to mention, this band’s live show is a sweaty spectacle and loads of fun. Sunbathing Animal will be released on June 3 and already seems as promising as its predecessor.
