This summer, Stockton’s Monster Treasure is releasing their debut LP on Harlot, (the label that also released the debut of Stockton’s Satan Wriders) Today we’re giving you the first chance to a track from the album, with the premiere of “Wake Up”.
Monster Treasure has been around since 2011, releasing an EP and split cassette with Baby Sitter on Shake! Records. The LP production was a bit of a change to Monster Treasure’s approach – for previous releases, primary songwriters Briana Granados and Rachel Orimo were living together and wrote most songs together. Their debut EP was also recorded in Rachel’s grandma’s basement. For the LP, however, the songs were written separately by Granados and Orimo before being recorded at Nu-Tone Studios by Ben Hirschfield.
“Wake Up” is two minutes that go by too fast, with subtle harmonies over fat, fuzzy guitars to craft a song that will be stuck in your head despite the apparent lack of a chorus. Monster Treasure will perform at SF Pop Fest later this Month at the Knockout before a quick tour of the Pacific Northwest later this summer.
