The Sam Chase has released a steady stream of both official and unofficial videos so far during 2014, and the next in line is his bare-bones presentation for “Hero To Myself” off last year’s Will Never Die. The video features only Chase himself with a guitar and a mic against a white background – an artful posturing yes, but also a (successful) effort to let the simple, yet moving track stand on its own two legs. One of the YouTube comments mentioned the striking similarity of the song’s sound to that of The Tallest Man On Earth, and while I think that’s an apt comparison to a point, Chase separates himself from his Swedish counterpart with an extra dose of his unique hard livin’, country roadhouse feel.
