Ever had that experience of waking up in the middle of a wondrous dream, the vivid colors still swirling around your half-conscious brain as you groggily grope in the dark for the snooze button on your alarm clock, your perception of reality completely shattered for a few blessed moments? That’s kinda what listening to Yesway feels like. Their music, like a dream, is equal parts seductively haunting and alluringly gorgeous, balancing harmonic dissonance with compelling melodies. And, again like a dream, you can never quite guess where the song is going to take you.
Consisting of friends Emily Ritz and Kacey Johansing, both veterans of the local experimental folk/indie scene, the duo is set to release their eponymous debut album on June 3rd. The first single from the LP, “Howlin’ Face”, is out now. Listen and dream.
