The Bay Bridged wants you to go to more shows! And we have a knock out for you this weekend–Sweden’s psyched-out experimental outfit Goat is coming to San Francisco, and you’re not going to want to miss this one. Legend has it that the band hails from a remote village by the name of Korpilombolo, where voodoo worship was practiced for centuries before Christians burned it to the ground during the Crusades. The survivors of the attack fled the area, but not before placing a powerful curse on the land, one that Goat proclaims can be felt through its music. Whether this tale is true or not doesn’t really matter, because while the band is shrouded in mystery (their lineup is completely ambiguous, with the exception of core member Christian Johansson, and they perform wearing masks), their music speaks for itself.
Invigorating the umbrella term of psychedelic music with an unencumbered rock and roll sensibility, Goat weaves a hypnotic tapestry with overtones of classic rock, krautrock and even afrobeat that can be both funky and dizzying while feeling dangerous and damn catchy. Cut with surprising hooks and mad guitar solos that never give into self indulgence, the band’s solitary LP, 2012’s World Music, was their first introduction to the world, and while it is a stunning record, Goat’s live performances are reportedly nothing short of mesmerizing.
Goat will be bringing their wild energy to Slim’s this Saturday, April 12, along with Holy Wave, and we have a pair of tickets to give away! Get on this one, if only to see their eerie and impressive collection of masks.
