Perfect Pussy

Those who are faint of heart should probably stay away from this one. Those who fancy themselves bold and enlightened enough to appreciate all types of music no matter its level of sonic density or blatant vulgarity- remember to at least bring a pair of earplugs. If there is one thing Perfect Pussy definitely isn’t, it’s subtle.

For all the kids out there too young to remember what real punk rock sounds like (not the easily packageable, corporately hijacked form that dominated radio stations and record charts in the ’90s), a quick listen to the band’s four-track demo tape exemplifies the genre in all its stripped down, authentic glory: loud, abrasive vocals, filthy guitar tones, and drumbeats that must’ve been played on a set of trashcans because there’s no possible way that sound came from a legitimate kit bought from a legitimate music retail outlet. Yes, the lyrics are practically indecipherable; yes, many people will be flat out perplexed if not disgusted by this sound, but, hey, that’s punk. It’s the soundtrack of pure aggression, a manifestation of the chaos just skirting the edges of orderly, so-called civilized society. If you can’t handle it, no one will blame you.  Your loss though.

Those who can handle it, however, should definitely come see the band and their distinctive noise at the when they play our next The Bay Bay Bridged Presents show at Rickshaw Stop on March 21, with Wild Moth and Happy Diving supporting.  And don’t forget those earplugs.

Listen to Perfect Pussy’s 2013 demo tape I Have Lost All Desire For Feeling below, stream their debut LP Say Yes To Love (out next Tuesday, March 18 on Captured Tracks) over on NPR First Listen, and get full details on next Friday’s The Bay Bridged Presents show at the bottom of the post.
