Ganymede

Jonas Reinhardt has a big weekend in the Bay Area. If you aren’t familiar with the name, Jonas Reinhardt is actually the recording project of Jesse Reiner and bandmates Phil Manley, Diego Gonzalez, and Damon Palermo. Currently based in Brooklyn, Jonas Reinhardt has ties to San Francisco as well. The experimental synth outfit returns by headlining a pair of shows tonight and tomorrow, at Oakland’s The Night Light and San Francisco’s Amnesia, respectively, plus an in-store gig at Vinyl Dreams on Sunday and a record release/film screening at The Roxie on Monday.

Jonas Reinhardt’s latest album, Ganymede, is actually the soundtrack to an experimental science fiction film set on the solar system’s largest moon. Jonas Reinhardt is celebrating the publication of Ganymede as a vinyl record, poster and DVD set from Constellation Tatsu, and will screen the film at 9:15pm on Monday, March 10 at The Roxie in San Francisco. Tickets are available online. Watch the trailer below.

Jonas Reinhardt describes the film: “On Ganymede, it is thought that volcanic vents supply the necessary power to fuel life. This film imagines unknown extra-terrestrial life forms engaged in ritualistic aquatic dance beneath a sky of ice. The resulting way of life is depicted as fluctuating pulses of energy abstracted beyond conventional consciousness.”

Utilizing Jonas Reinhardt’s cosmic arsenal of synthesizers to create textural, repeating patterns, the Ganymede soundtrack LP contains six tracks from the film, each reflecting a specific sonic environment to create an immersive audio-visual experience.  The release on Constellation Tatsu includes a vinyl LP, a DVD film, and a limited edition poster by Antonia Kuo.

If subtly psychedelic sci-fi visuals aren’t necessarily your jam, you also have three chances to see Jonas Reinhardt perform as a live band ahead of Monday’s film screening. Curated by Professional Fans, Jonas Reinhardt will headline the Not Not Fun / 100% Silk Bay Area Takeover, a pair of shows kicking off at The Night Light tonight, and concluding at Amnesia on Saturday night. Pharaohs will join Jonas Reinhardt to perform on both nights, plus Cherushii on Friday and Roche with Magic Touch on Saturday. Pro Fans will DJ each night as well.

If you can’t make it to either show, or you’re thirsty for an encore, Jonas Reinhardt and Cherushii will perform live in the Vinyl Dreams record store (593 Haight Street) between 5 and 9pm this Sunday with DJ sets from Roche and Magic Touch. Have a nice trip.
