Bill Baird (Moon Glyph)

Oakland-via-Austin pysch-pop troubadour Bill Baird finishes his month-long residency at Amnesia tomorrow. While we’re sorry to see him go, you can still pick up his recent cassette release from Oakland’s most psychedelic record label, Moon Glyph. Although Baird has been recording music for years, Diamond Eyepatch is his debut release on Moon Glyph, as well as the label’s first release of 2014.

Baird’s latest release employs the talents of John Kolar, Willis McClung, Jordan Johns, Caleb Harmon, Marcus Rubio, Jonas Wilson, and Brett Carson. The cover art and layout was designed by Moon Glyph’s very own Steve Rosborough. I picked up a copy of the new tape from Moon Glyph’s booth at the Bay Area Record Label Fair last week, and it’s been on heavy rotation ever since. The songs are accessible enough to enjoy without the use of psychoactive substances, with just enough experimental surrealism to freak out the space cadets. It’s groovy stuff, man.

By the way, are you interested in winning free shit? As we previously reported, Bill Baird is giving away some awesome prizes to celebrate his San Francisco residency. The grand prize winner will receive a boombox with a cassette of unreleased music from Bill Baird. He’s also giving away his entire discography, a custom mixtape, a letter-pressed Tuesday Fest poster, and something called Tofu dog.

So if you’re into his new tunes, pick up your copy of Bill Baird’s debut Moon Glyph release Diamond Eyepatch at the final performance of his Amnesia residency Tuesday night, after you enter his special giveaway contest.

To enter to win Bill’s Boombox, email blondebill@gmail.com with “BOOMBOX” in the subject line and your full name and mailing address in the body of the email. A winner will be selected at random and notified via email.
