As the maddening goodness of Noise Pop 2014 rolls in, and shows sell out left and right, it’s no surprise that tonight’s Courtney Barnett show at Rickshaw Stop is sold out (you can still get in if you buy a badge).
Barnett’s sunny and carefree debut album, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, has rapidly gained buzz over the past several months. The 20-something hails from Australia and has been touring the US, playing selective dates in February before playing shows at her home base with none other than Billy Bragg.
Barnett’s album is jammed with jangly guitar and biting-wit lyrics. Her vocal delivery is rapid-fire and infectious. Barnett’s effortless cool may have come from her past roles of guitar-player in bands of friends and friends-of-friends. Though you may or may not be able to catch her crooning tonight, listen below to “Avant Gardener” by Barnett.
